Couply Calendar connects to your calendar, so being clear about your data matters to us. This page explains what we access, why, and the control you keep.
The short version
- We connect to your calendar in read-only mode. We never edit or delete your events.
- You choose exactly which calendars to share.
- Events you mark private in your calendar show to your partner only as “Busy”.
- You can disconnect a calendar or delete your account at any time.
- We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who we are
Couply Calendar (“Couply”, “we”, “us”) provides a shared calendar snapshot for couples and families. For any privacy question, contact us at hello@couply.co.uk.
Data we access and store
To provide the service we process:
- Account details — your name, email address and profile photo from the provider you sign in with (Google, Microsoft or email).
- Calendar data (read-only)— from the calendars you choose to connect: event times, busy/free status, and event titles (except where an event is marked private, in which case we treat it as “Busy” with no details).
- Things you add in Couply — day statuses, shared lists, notes, meal plans, reminders and family/child profiles.
- Technical data — basic logs and device/session information needed to run and secure the service.
How calendar access works
We request read-onlycalendar scopes only. We never have permission to create, change or remove events on your calendar. You pick which calendars are shared, and events marked private in your calendar are never exposed in detail — your partner sees only that you're busy. See our security & calendar access page for more.
What your partner can see
When you pair with a partner, they see the snapshot you choose to share: your day status, the busy/free shape of your day, and event titles from shared calendars (never from private events or calendars you haven't connected). You can change what you share at any time in settings.
How we use your data
- To show you and your partner a shared snapshot of your days.
- To sync the calendars you connect and keep the snapshot current.
- To send the notifications and reminders you enable.
- To operate, secure, support and improve the service.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your calendar content for advertising.
Service providers
We share data only with providers that help us run Couply, under appropriate agreements: our cloud database and authentication host, the calendar providers you connect (Google, Microsoft, or an iCloud/CalDAV account), email delivery for transactional messages, and payment processing for Couply Plus. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Storage and security
Data is stored on reputable cloud infrastructure. Provider access tokens are encrypted at rest, and access is restricted. Connections use HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data.
Retention and deletion
- Disconnect a calendar at any time to stop syncing it.
- Unpair from your partner to stop sharing your snapshot.
- Delete your account from settings, or email hello@couply.co.uk. We delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records by law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under UK and EU GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any right, contact hello@couply.co.uk.
Cookies
We use only the cookies necessary to keep you signed in and to operate the service. We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Children
Couply is for adults. You may add children as profiles to organise family logistics, but children do not hold their own accounts. The service is not directed to children for their own use.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the date above and, for material changes, let you know in the app.
